To accurately report sales within UQ Cadence, products need to be categorized in commonly accepted industry terms. You will find different levels of categorization depending on the product's Primary Category. This article discusses Footwear.
Information regarding other Primary Categories can be found here:
- Socks Categorization

- Other Product Categorization
Primary Category
At the highest level, every product's primary category is defined: Footwear, Apparel, Socks, etc...
Family
Products are then categorized by their common product name, which is labeled as Family through all UQ Cadence reports. This allows sales of each product generation to be grouped together, ex. Gel-Cumulus 1, 2, 3, 4, etc...
Gender
Once defined in a Family, products are then identified by their gender.
- Gender Neutral
- Men's
- Women's
- Youth (includes girl, boy, toddler, and infant styles)
Category 2 (Type)
To get the best comparison between comparable products, a second level determines the primary type of shoe. What did the designers have in mind as the primary function of this shoe?
- Hiking
- Lifestyle
- Other (rain boots, steel-toe work shoes)
- Running/Walking
- Sandals/Recovery
- Spikes/Flats
- Sports
Category 3 (Use)
Shoes categorized as Running/Walking and Spikes/Flats in Category 2 are then identified by Use. Similar to Type, what did the designers have in mind as the primary use of this Running/Walking shoe? Within UQ Cadence, all Spikes/Flats are designated as Racing, whereas Running/Walking shoes could have been designed primarily to be used for a few activities.
- Racing (all Spikes/Flats)
- Road Running
- Trail Running
- Walking
